Each
student may elect to write a 15 to 20 page thesis to receive
up to 15 credits toward their degree. Each student who elects
this option must notify the University and provide the topic
and subject content. These courses represent final MS degree
requirements. Students are provided an outline for each
course. Research papers, essay's and/or exams are graded by
the University. You may use the referenced material or libraries,
college textbooks, internet research, field study, etc. Using
various research methods will broaden your knowledge of each
subject. Students may also elect to use Independent Study as a
method to complete these courses.

- Geology and Hazardous Waste Management. Geologic
principles have been integrated with engineering,
scientific, and regulatory aspects of hazardous waste
management. Will enable the student to learn about the
complex nature of hazardous waste management. Serves as an
important resource material to professionals in the HAZMAT
industry and to the regulatory personnel.

- Soil and Water Conservation. Soil and water
conservation deals with the wise use of these important
resources. Hazards posed by erosion, sedimentation, and
pollution, and the techniques needed to conserve soil and
maintain environmental quality are treated during this
course. Contains situations and examples are drawn from
many places to constitute a cross section of the soils,
climates, and cultures of the world. The scope includes
agricultural, engineering, mining, and other uses of land.

workings of the Government that are rarely visible but
necessary for an appreciation of the formation of
environmental policy. It examines environmental policy in
the U.S. in air, water, land use, agriculture, energy,
waste disposal, and other areas, and in so doing, provides
an introduction to the policy-making process in the U.S.

- Principles of Environmental Management. The
Greening of Business. Students interested in business and
management are introduced to environmental issues and
dealing with the nature of corporate responses. It is
organized into three sections. First, section addresses
the major concerns, which provide a framework for the
analysis of environmental issues, and to deal with some
fundamental concepts that may help in understanding
concrete problems. Second section links environmental
issues to managerial practice. Finally, environmental
concerns are approached from the standpoint of business
and society. Each chapter contains questions for
discussion.

- Coastal and Marine Sanctuary Management. Toward
Integrated Coastal and Marine Sanctuary Management. Each
chapter is one-third science, one-third policy, and
one-third management. This course outlines the
environmental concerns affecting our coasts and coastal
waters. Seeks to represent the interrelationship between
coastal land issues and adjacent marine sanctuary
concerns. It is about understanding, monitoring, and
managing these two related areas for their mutual benefit.
