Emergency Management and Environmental Programs

Palmer University offers an BS degree's in Environmental Science, Environmental Health, and Emergency Management; MS in Environmental Study; and a PH.D in Environmental Studies. Palmer University has a firm understanding in the unique relationship that exists between our environment in relation to natural disasters. We offer unique programs which blend the study of Environmental Sciences and Emergency Management.

Palmer offers field study or concentrated studies as a method to gain credit. Students may select from the topics below to conduct field/community research and/or concentrated studies and submit findings for credit. Obviously environmental issues are continually coming to the forefront of policy, law, and human interest. Students are encouraged to seek those areas of interest to you which may be additional to those provided below. 

  • Effects of Ice Sheet disintegration of the Antarctic Peninsula.

  • What causes people to go the extremes of hunger strikes and protests in order to provide their point of view on an environmental issue? Provide examples.

  • Effects of EPA pollution controls for carbon emissions on industry and the common user.

  • Effects of catastrophic incidents on the environment such as Chernobyle, 3-Mile Island, or the Exon Valdes disaster.

  • Conduct a study on your city, county, or state policies regarding energy conservation, water conservation, wildlife management, natural resource conservation, habitat protection, endangered species protection, or management of hazardous waste/material. Each topic should be considered a separate issue.

  • Initiate a community awareness program for recycling and taking care of our environment.

  • Conduct a survey, consolidate conclusions, and assess how a particular neighborhood, community, or city feels about environmental issues.

  • Should the military be exempt from Federal emission controls and if so, why?

  • How does the military support environmental causes on your particular installation?
