Independent Studies

Palmer University has chosen Independent Study as an alternative educational method of learning.  A traditional manner of study leads students to adopt the philosophy of the institution and professor rather than a student formulating his or her own ideology.  Students are provided an outline for each course, recommended research sources and textbook source but are not limited to them only.  Students may purchase textbooks at a modest cost through the University or purchase directly through Prentice Hall Publishers.

Q:  How does Independent Study compare to a formal classroom?

For the most part, formal schooling does not prepare men and women for SPECIFIC occupational roles. Rather, College offers a general orientation to a wide range of careers, as well as experience with organization - the University.

Q:  How would a potential employer recognize my education based upon Independent Study verses a classroom oriented program?

For many occupations there is no way around it, you must get your education from a formal classroom (Doctor, Lawyer, Dentist, etc).  Most large corporations recognize that an education alone will not prepare an employee to be successful, therefore; conduct formal training programs. Many Corporations have tailored their training programs to University graduates by setting up Corporate Campuses and classrooms. "Teaching the Company Way".
